Modulator Bias Controllers

Automated bias control and drift stabilization for LiNbO3 Mach-Zehnder modulators from 760 to 2200 nm

Overview

The Exail Modulator Bias Controller (MBC) precisely selects and stabilizes the operating point of lithium niobate Mach-Zehnder modulators, keeping it stable over time and temperature. These automated bench-top instruments come in dedicated versions for analog, digital, IQ and pulse modulation.

Key features

  • MBC-AN: analog version with dither-less operation for analog links
  • MBC-DG: digital version, continuously tunable, supporting NRZ, DPSK and RZ formats
  • MBC-IQ: IQ control for carrier-suppressed single-sideband (CS-SSB) operation with harmonic rejection above 40 dB
  • Pulse MZ version: drift compensation for high pulse contrast

Specifications

  • Wavelength range: 760 to 2200 nm
  • Harmonic rejection (MBC-IQ): more than 40 dB

Applications

  • Intensity, phase and IQ LiNbO3 modulation setups where the bias point must stay stable over time and temperature
  • Analog, digitally modulated and pulsed Mach-Zehnder links
