ModBox

Customizable external-modulation optical transmitter systems built around LiNbO3 modulators

Overview

ModBox systems integrate Exail lithium niobate modulators with lasers, RF electronics and control into ready-to-use optical transmitters for test benches and deployed systems. Configurations range from pulse shapers and laser front-ends to coherent beam combining, carrier suppression and frequency comb modulation, reference transmitters for datacom and optical ground stations, and analog RF-over-fiber transmitters, with custom systems available.

Key features

  • Telecom modulation formats including (D)QPSK, PAM, DPSK and NRZ
  • Sub-nanosecond optical pulse generation across 780 to 2000 nm
  • Reference optical transmitters at 850 nm, 1064 nm, O-band and C-band, IEEE-compliant
  • Analog transmitters combining a linear LiNbO3 modulator with a low-RIN laser and optional RF amplifier
  • Custom optical systems and instruments on request

Specifications

  • Reference transmitters: NRZ, DPSK, QPSK, QAM and PAM-4 up to 56 Gb/s
  • Analog transmitters: C- and O-band operation up to 65 GHz (NIR versions up to 40 GHz)

Applications

  • Telecom and datacom test and measurement
