Exail laser and amplifier fibers are doped with rare-earth ions (erbium, ytterbium, thulium, holmium, neodymium) to provide optical gain through stimulated emission. The high surface-to-volume ratio and guiding effect of the fiber support performance from milliwatts to kilowatts, including fibers for Raman amplification and radiation-hardened space-grade applications.
