RF Modulator Drivers

GaAs distributed RF amplifier modules designed to drive LiNbO3 electro-optic modulators

Overview

Exail RF modulator drivers amplify electrical signals before they drive lithium niobate electro-optic modulators. Built on GaAs distributed amplifier technology, the range comes in analog, digital and pulse versions that integrate with Exail modulators in demanding laser, sensing, communications and quantum systems.

Key features

  • Analog drivers: low noise figure and a linear transfer function
  • Flat group delay and gain, gain control, single power supply, connectorized modules
  • Digital drivers: low jitter with fast rise and fall times
  • Pulse drivers: single voltage supply with output voltage control

Specifications

  • Analog: bandwidth up to 40 GHz
  • Digital: NRZ/RZ up to 44 Gb/s, DPSK up to 28 Gb/s, (D)QPSK at 22 Gb/s and up to 2×28 Gb/s
  • Pulse: repetition rates up to the GHz range, pulse widths down to 50 ps

Applications

  • Driving LiNbO3 modulators from PRBS or AWG generators with high-quality eye diagrams
  • Generation of clean optical pulse trains
  • Laser, sensing, communications and quantum systems
